Alang Branaw is located in Wenlan Village, which is at the southern part of Xiulin Township in Hualien County. The tribe is predominantly made up of the indigenous Truku people, and as we can interpret from the name Branaw (chóngguāng), which means “fertile land”, it is known for its rich agricultural heritage, producing crops like ginger, bird’s nest fern, Makino bamboo shoots, and tea oil camellia. Coffee has emerged here as a new industry in recent years, and a dedicated agricultural production and marketing group focusing on the cultivation of specialty coffee was formed. Among these, Nita Café has garnered significant attention, winning multiple awards in green coffee evaluations.
“Nita,” meaning “we” in the Truku language, reflects the communal spirit that defines the coffee farm. Dr. Dai Feng-Qiu, the owner of the farm, hopes to provide employment and economic opportunities for his fellow tribe members through coffee, working together to grow coffee that belongs to “us.” The panoramic coffee farm offers views of the East Rift Valley, Carp Lake, and the Pacific Ocean, while the diligent coffee farmers cultivate their land through organic and eco-friendly farming practices. They aim to bring forth and promote to the world an aromatic and flavorful coffee that is nurtured by the mountains and seas of Hualien.
